The Seattle Waterfront Streetcar 1 June 2003

Page posted   31 May 2004   -   Revised 24 Febr 2007

Pictures from Seattle, Washington, USA, taken 1 June 2003

These pictures are from the "George Benson Waterfront Streetcar Line" that runs from Broad Street Station at Waterfront Pier 70 in the north along the waterfront of Seattle then turning into the old town area and International District with southern end stop at Jackson Street Station near the International District Railroad Station and Chinatown.

Seeing these vintage streetcars you would imagine that they have been running here for many decades as part of the "original Seattle". The truth is these cars are imported from Melbourne, Australia, in 1982 by former City of Seattle Council member George Benson. But as far as I understand they resembles the original streetcars that used to run in the city (also with cables as in San Francisco I was told) and they represent a very popular tourist attraction running along the piers where the cruise ships dock.
